Get In Our Bellies

A family meal planner that plans round the people, not the recipes.

A household meal planner: shared recipe library, week planner, pantry, aisle-ordered shopping list, and a family vote on what is for tea. Fourteen entities all scoped to a household tenant joined by invite code. The difficulty is the pantry ledger. The shopping list is the plan minus what is already in the house, so any double-write makes the pantry over-report and the next week's list under-buy, silently. The client SDK offers no transaction, no idempotency key and no conditional write, so write ordering and rollback have to do that work instead.

What makes it work

  • Restocking marks items before any pantry write and rolls the marks back if a later step fails, steering the residual failure toward a pantry that under-reports rather than one that over-reports
  • Recipe ingredient rows carry no household id, so the library is fetched with a chunked $in over recipe ids already held: 24 parallel requests per page load became one, still exactly household-scoped
  • Reads get a 20s timeout; writes deliberately get none. With no idempotency key a retried create makes a second family member, so the request stays in flight and only the screen changes what it says

How it gets made

Nine parts, in the same order, every time.

Every build on this site comes out of the same structure, whether it is a game, a ledger or a suite of tools. The method is published in full, and so are the prompts I am allowed to publish.
